“I teach them correct principles, and they govern themselves.” – Joseph Smith

Since the first edition of the Mormon Worker we have used this quote of Joseph Smith as part of the front banner. I remember formatting it on there because of the Anarchistic nature of the quote. I never really knew the context of the quote. Today I stumbled across a blog that does share the context of the quote. I found it pretty interesting. So I thought I would share. http://www.lextek.com/clark/10890.html

The Church states new emphasis of caring for the poor.

I’m very excited for this and I’m looking forward to the lessons and programs that will becoming out of this. One thing that I hope wont be passed up is the question “Why are they poor?” If we really truly want to combat poverty we will have look at the root of the problem and act from there.

A postcard from Utah – The Boston Globe

The Mormon Worker was kind of mentioned in the Boston globe.   I got to see Michael Paulson speak at the UVU conference “Mormonism in the Public Mind.”   After his speach I gave him a copy of the 6th edition of the Mormon Worker.  I also told him to look up our first addition for the Article William Vanwagen wrote entitled “Mitt Romney: A Mormon Presidential Candidate?”

I thought he would be interested since he has written a lot about Mitt Romney over the years and  especially during the presidential campaign.  He even went to France to find people That Romney would have taught as a young missionary.
