The Essential Marcuse

An easy introduction to the great 20th century system-basher and social critic Herbert Marcuse. Uncle Herb trained under Martin Heidegger,  participated in the early German Soviet (the Spartacist Putsch), fled to the U.S. during World War II, taught at UCSD, and was pals with Angela Davis in the 1960s. Needless to say, he was an interesting fellow. He wrote a couple of great books: One-Dimensional Man and Eros and Civilization which are as pertinent today as they ever were.
