A postcard from Utah – The Boston Globe

The Mormon Worker was kind of mentioned in the Boston globe.   I got to see Michael Paulson speak at the UVU conference “Mormonism in the Public Mind.”   After his speach I gave him a copy of the 6th edition of the Mormon Worker.  I also told him to look up our first addition for the Article William Vanwagen wrote entitled “Mitt Romney: A Mormon Presidential Candidate?”

I thought he would be interested since he has written a lot about Mitt Romney over the years and  especially during the presidential campaign.  He even went to France to find people That Romney would have taught as a young missionary.

yeah i saw that article. I was wondering who approached him and figured it had to be one of us.

Can’t say I’m impressed with Mr. Paulson’s article. Why was he “struck by the ideological diversity within a faith that often seems to lack much”? Much what? Not only was this a poorly written sentence, but why does he just assume there is no diversity within a Church with more members outside the United States than in it now? And no, you’re not likely to see much ethnic diversity at Utah Valley University in the middle of Orem, but we are a worldwide church where English is now a minority language. He also seemed really dismissive of the idea of a radical newspaper produced by members of a religion whose founders were some of the most radical individuals, in terms of religion and economics, this country has known. Joseph Smith is the only religious leader I know of for a major religion that deliberately left an open canon! I realize there are legitimate reasons for some of these misconceptions about Mormons, but it would be nice to see some actual investigation done by a reporter for a mainstream newspaper. But I guess I don’t see much actual investigation on any topic in mainstream papers anymore.

But it is cool you got mentioned in the Boston Globe.
