Below is an appeal sent out by Islamic Relief, a charity with which the LDS Church has worked in the past. If anyone has any extra cash, you may want to think about donating something. This is turning into a terrible humanitarian crisis.
2.5 Million Now Displaced; Islamic Relief Begins Aid Distributions
More than 2.5 million people have been displaced by the fighting. Most are suffering in the scorching summer heat with little or no food, water, clothing or shelter.
Islamic Relief aid worker, Jerome Akram recently wrote from the field:
“Being the one in-charge of the programs (both emergency and development), I feel so worn out operating in 24/7 mode. But contributing to ensure the survival and protection of our brothers and sisters displaced by this war is enough to energize our teams.
We were loading relief items last night and before dawn a convoy of relief trucks [moved] to deliver goods to our place of operation (closest to the conflict zone). On top of directing programs, I am also writing proposals to donors (with a small team) so that we could have resources to support our relief operations.
There are moments that I cry in muted silence asking so many questions without arriving at answers.
We cannot just respond by giving blankets. Our response is comprehensive and it covers all: food, basic needs, medical needs, trauma counseling, water, and what have you. We also intend to walk through with the struggles of the IDPs until they are resettled back. If that will take time, we will go through with it in a manner sustained by our faith and your prayers.”
Please, donate now to help Islamic Relief continue providing aid to displaced families.
Pass this email to your friends and families to encourage others to help as well.
May Allah reward your efforts.
