In 1998, a worker’s soviet was formed to assume control of a bankrupt Argentine company which had been looted by its owner, a multimillionaire named Luis Zanon. This made headlines at the time, and the workers were called criminals, terrorists and thieves in the Western press.
As of today, thanks to a decision in the Argentine courts, 5000 jobs have been created and 500 families have food. The council now owns the factories, the machines, the trademarks/patents, and the right to operate again as Cerámica Zanon.
